Delhi Metro Trains To Go Driverless
And Saadi Dilli surprises us once again! Delhi Metro will soon go driverless as the DMRC (Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) is all set to launch new automated trains that will carry passengers end to end. The new automated trains are from a Korea-based firm and being assembled in India. A world-class treat for Delhi Metro fans, we must say!
Salient features of the new swanky driverless trains:
- These trains would be 10% faster as compared to the speed of the existing trains.
- No more space issues! The train coaches would be 3.2 m wide which means more air circulation for sure.
- USB port facility and charging points–life’s good, yeah!
- Once the trains go driverless, there would be more capacity to accommodate 60 additional passengers in the driver’s cabin.
- Only seats of the first and last coach would be dedicated for women passengers and the colour of the seats would be pink.
- Only reserved seats will be one shade darker than the colour of the general seats.
- 20% lower energy consumption–that’s some energy efficiency.
- The new trains would have provisions to make additional space for 12 more passengers, thanks to the equipment places beneath the seats.
- No more noise, the trains will run on quieter wheels..sssh!
- Passengers would be able to use Wi-Fi facility.
- More convenience, as there would be a backrest near the wheelchair area.
- Better floor design with high density ceramic wool insulation.
- No more getting bored in the Delhi Metro. There would be a digital route map along with LCD screens with animations, real-time video streaming and graphics.
- New design and colour-coded seats would help accommodate a capacity of upto 1,866 passengers per train.
All about the operation of the driverless metro:
- There would be live streaming from inside car CCTV system to operation control centre.
- There would be two-front facing cameras that’ll keep the staff informed about the status of the tracks and help prevent accidents.
- Two-way communication between the train and OCC (Operation Control Centre).
- The control room will help control all trains and operations would be automated.
- No more derailment, thanks to the obstruction deflection device that’ll help escape all small obstructions on the tracks.
